One day, I was sitting down with and chatting with a friend by the name of Kenzo. His full name is Dr. Mabiala JR Kenzo, but we call him Kenzo for short. At the time he was my professor and I was his student. As we talked about his homeland in the Democratic Republic of Congo, I was drawn into the conversation in a very deep way. The story Kenzo told was very compelling as the needs in Congo were profound and yet the help they were getting from other parts of the globe were relatively small.

As we talked about specific challenges at the FACTEB school in Boma,  my brain was on overdrive as I thought about the possibilities of how people in Canada could help. I was thinking about a community of people who would gather around Kenzo and others in Boma so that they could make a bigger difference. My mouth was in motion before my brain was fully engaged and I blurted out the phrase 'Friends of Boma'.

At the time, I had no idea what I and others were getting into. It has turned into a hard, rewarding, frustrating and fulfilling adventure. If you are interested and have the time, why not walk beside us on our journey.

A good place to start that journey is the Friends of Boma blog.

God Bless,

Wayne
