We had a great call with Lau and Kenzo today and they gave the following update:

FACTEB:

  • School is going well with the Academic year going even better than last year.
  • They are now past most of the flu and disease season.
  • The end of the Academic year is in sight (mid-July) and students are preparing for exams and writing their thesis.
  • The graduation is anticpating nine Master's students and 13 Undergraduates.
  • Professor Nzita is considering relocating to FACTEB.
  • FACTEB has an interim accreditation for their Master's program from the government. They had an inspection last month which went well. Pray for a good final report.
  • Professor Levi has been sick with stomach issues and the doctors suspect early stage cancer. Pray for Professor Levi for renewed health.
  • Two more visiting professors are coming to teach courses - Pray for safe travels.
  • Professor Rene is traveling to Europe this summer and are hoping to raise funds for a new library - Pray for wisdom, guidance, and success as this will enable the school to grow in attendance.
  • The Women's Bible Institute is going well and is looking forward to working on improving the building.
  • Sarah's school, the preschool program is going very well with feedings and the teacher is doing a great job. The kids often want to stay even when their Mothers come to collect them.
  • Family:

    • By God's grace, the family is doing fine overall.
    • Tutu and Afo's health however is frail due in part to mosquitoes. Afo has been in the hospital and doctors. Pray for improved health and pray for Lau and Kenzo as sick kids creates a lot of pressure.
    • School for the boys is going very well.
    • With the long power outages and the damage caused by surges, their fridge and stove are no longer operational. Cooking is now done over charcoal which is significantly more work. This is also increasing homesickness for Canada. Pray  for a resolution to the power problems.
    • Ami left last Wednesday for Canada after a good visit of three months. She saw another aspect of Congo and reconnected with family.
    • Ike will not be coming to Congo this summer as planned as he used his savings to attend a funeral in the USA. Pray that the kids on the Canadian side will be able to stay connected with their family on the Congo side.
    • The family house is Boma is continuing to be built but isgoing slow. They are waiting for doors and windows currently as there is a shortage of wood products in Bas-Congo. Next steps after are wiring, plumbing, ceiling, flooring, plastering of the walls. Pray for accelerated building as completion of the home will provide a place of rest and solitude for the Kenzos.

Our next pray meeting with the Kenzo's will be held June 27 on Kenzo's Birthday.

    God Bless,

    Wayne
