Close to a dozen “Friends of Boma” enjoyed a telephone conference update January 9, 2010 with members of the Boma FACTEB team, including Dr. Masanga, Rene, Lau and recently-returned Kenzo.
An eventful return to Kinshasa from Calgary in mid-December for Dr. Kenzo included plane delays in Montreal, Paris and then several days in Kinshasa awaiting lost luggage. Lau met him in the capital, and they were able to travel together to Boma, where they happily rejoined their sons, Afo and Tutu.
The Kenzo family celebrated Christmas together in Boma, and then was able to spend New Years with their extended families in the Maduda area, (in normal circumstances, a three hour road trip north of Boma). They were also delighted to be able to connect by telephone over Christmas with their family members in Calgary, Ami, Ike and Yena.
Praise and prayer items included the following:
Thanksgiving for Kenzo’s safe return to Boma.
Gratefulness on campus for an optimistic return to classes following the Christmas break
Good progress on the construction projects, including Sarah’s school, the women’s school, student residences and foundation for a new library building.
Operational Budget shortfall continues to pose a challenge
Students face significant challenges providing their portion of student fees and living expenses (They are expected to provide about 50% of the total annual costs of $900US per student)
Thankfulness for the many visiting professors that teach at FACTEB, but continued need for additional profs.
Good news regarding a potential donation of about 250 French Biblical and Theological books from a sister school in Montreal, IBVie.
We celebrate together a school that continues to attract and train high quality leaders for the building of Christ’s kingdom in Africa and throughout the world. Indeed, FACTEB is making a difference that is beyond measure!
